Fanfare for Spanish Guitarist
Hector Pimentel, New Mexico classical guitar virtuoso will present solo performances on Capitol Hill and in The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Pimentel's concerts are slated for noon on Capitol Hill and again at six in the Center's Millennium Stage Grand Foyer.
On Tuesday, July 17, 2001 -- New Mexico State Day -- Pimentel will represent The Land of Enchantment in two free performances typifying local, national, and international Hispanic music, including Pimentel's original arrangements and compositions. These appearances are part of the Millennium Stage State Days Series designed to be performed before an audience of citizens, visitors, and tourists and will also be broadcast live on the Center's Website: (http://www.kennedy-center.org).
Nominated for this invitational honor by NM Senator Jeff Bingaman, Pimentel has selected a variety of works from the repertoire, ranging from popular show tunes to classics, to nuevo flamenco. "This is the culmination of a lifetime ambition," he acknowledges. "As an American performing artist, I am simultaneously humbled and proud to be part of this event. For me, this is truly fantastico."
